Job description
Are you interested to help us answer our questions? We are looking for a technician that is part of, and supports the team. We offer a friendly, stimulating and ambitious international research environment. You would perform tasks related to a project focusing on performing live imaging microscopy and single cell genomics on individual neural stem cells. In this project, you would work closely together with a colleague. You would also be involved in generation and maintenance of genetically modified zebrafish lines. In addition, you would be taking charge of lab managerial tasks like ordering and arranging repair of instruments.
The European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging
The European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging (ERIBA) is a research institute at the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG). ERIBA aims to discover molecular mechanisms of ageing that can be used as targets to prevent or delay age-related diseases. Our research teams are working with different model systems and technology platforms and share their knowledge and expertise to accelerate discoveries. ERIBA is part of the central UMCG campus, located in a vibrant student town in the northern Netherlands.
In our lab, we aim to understand the mechanisms underlying stem cell decisions in developing and ageing tissues. Stem cells act in developing and adult organisms to produce the proper number of specialized cells in the body. It is important that stem cells select an appropriate division mode to ensure proper development, maintenance and repair of tissues. We employ single cell analyses techniques to study stem cell biology in the developing brain, using zebrafish as our main model system.
Requirements
- A training as a technician at HBO level.
- An Article 13f (WOD) or similar certificate.
- You have experience in a wide variety of molecular biology techniques.
- Prior experience with animal models, in particular zebrafish, is a plus.
- You are a team player, highly motivated, self-driven, with a flexible attitude.
- Affinity with light microscopy.
- You have good organizational skills.
- You have a good level of written and spoken English.
Conditions of employment
The employment basis is a temporary contract for one year with a possible extension with one extra year. Your salary will be a maximum of € 3.280,- gross per month (scale 7), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
