The role on offer

The Unit Pharma & Biotech Services, Sanquin Diagnostic Services, is looking for a team lead for a newly formed matrix team of technical staff. The staff members are part of four labs which are specialised in different disease areas/therapeutics. This team execute tests on biological material to support clinical trials and to offer routine diagnostics for hospitals worldwide. We perform diagnostic tests in an ISO 15189 accredited lab and execute tests for pharma partners under GxP.

In addition of the four specialised labs, there is also, a cross-laboratory and division development team who can navigate all areas of expertise of our unit, support each other and assure we can handle peaks in demand regarding assay development. This teams is highly functional and hence we want to replicate this matrix-structure for the staff members of the four specialised labs.

Your daily work will consist of supporting the staff members and organise an optimal setting for them to work in. At the same time, you will be instrumental in optimising work-processes within and between the specialised teams. Based on a Lean approach, these teams need to function optimally and, as the laboratories are commercial in nature, need to be financially healthy. You will act as a link between the technical staff and the development team when new assays are implemented. You will anticipate upon the need for and organising trouble shooting of existing assays. You will assist in project management beyond linking existing teams.

Hospitals request us to execute the more difficult and specialised analyses. Pharma and biotech clients reach out to us to set-up new complex assays while we have also have to assure sample measurement in a high throughput manner. The technical team consists of approximately 25 people, working in four groups within our unit: the biologics lab, the haemostasis lab and, temporarily, the immunochemistry and phone team.

Sanquin Diagnostic Services is a for-profit part of Sanquin and works in close collaboration with Sanquin Research. Any profit made by the for-profit parts of Sanquin feed into the not-for-profit Sanquin Research, which hosts academics. Sanquin Diagnostics Services provides advice and diagnostic services in the context of transfusion medicine, blood-transferable infections, immunopathology, coagulation and haematology. We perform highly specialised laboratory for hospitals, blood banks and midwiferies but notably also for pharmaceutical- and biotech companies. Sanquin Diagnostic Services is now in transition from mainly providing diagnostics for hospitals towards more contract research for pharma and biotech companies.

Your profile

  • HBO/Polytech
  • Experience with leading a team
  • Strong organisational, communication & influencing skills
  • Ability to analyse which part of the process limits the overall throughput
  • Problem solving capability to develop and implement improvements
  • Experience in GxP and ISO15189 OR LEAN 6S is a plus.
  • Good command of written and spoken Dutch, command of English.
  • Ability to work on and plan multiple projects at the same time and adhere to tight deadlines.
