SC is supported by a large and well-resourced Research, Development & Innovation Center in Deventer, the Netherlands, that is home to over 300 R&D experts. Here, dedicated teams and Expert Capability Groups work together with our businesses to develop knowledge that leads to new and improved products and chemical processes.

Part of this community is the R&D team for the business unit Surface Chemistry, which develops and optimizes products and processes in close cooperation with other laboratories and production facilities in Deventer, Sweden, Belgium, North & South America and Asia. We have a wide range of laboratory and pilot facilities from < 1 up to 150 liters, including high pressure and high temperature equipment.

Within this context, your mission in this role is to assist in the development and improvement of products and processes in the field of cationic surfactants.

The role and its responsibilities

This role represents and exciting opportunity to build and maintain expertise across the field of cationic surfactants within a world-class knowledge and research environment.

Your main task will be to perform experiments in the synthesis lab in order to develop a variety of new and improved products and processes. Thus you are responsible for the design, performance and reporting of experimental work and for the maintenance and optimization of equipment.  Safety and environmental awareness are essential to AkzoNobel and all aspects of the role.

Candidate profile

To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in (Organic) Chemistry or Chemical Engineering;
  • A passion for organic synthesis in combination with analytical and physical measurement;
  • An interest in equipment and engineering;
  • Strong English language communication skills.
